Ganesh Ghosh

Shri Ganesh Ghosh was born on 22nd June 1900, at Binodpur village, Jessore District (presently Bangladesh). Ghosh originally belonged to Chittagong, now in Bangladesh. In 1922, he was educated at the Bengal Technical Institute, Calcutta. In 1923, Ghosh was arrested in the Maniktala Bomb Case and was imprisoned for four years in 1924. After his release in 1929, he was elected as a member of “Bengal Provincial Congress Committee”. Later, he also joined as a member of the ‘Chittagong Jugantar party and participated in the Chittagong arsenal raid, along with Surya Sen and all other revolutionaries. He was again arrested in Chandanagar (from a secret shelter). In 1932, Ganesh Ghosh was sentenced to life imprisonment after the trial and was deported to the Cellular Jail in Port Blair. In 1946, after his release from jail, he joined communist politics. He became a leader of the Communist Party of India, after independence. In 1967, Ghosh was elected to the 4th Lok Sabha from Calcutta. Ganesh Ghosh died on 16th October 1994 at S.S.k.m. hospital after being bedridden in a serious disease.
