Heritage Hotels in India

Heritage hotels are built by converting ancient forts, mansions, and palaces of the erstwhile royal families of India into a Grand Hotel.

According to the ministry of tourism, the heritage hotels are further subdivided as follows:

Heritage – built between 1935 and 1950

Heritage classic – built between 1920 and 1935

Heritage grand – built prior to 1920

Earlier, these were built by their monarchs or nobles in the form of their residences. These houses, for centuries, were known for their impeccable hospitality of royal guests. After independence, the maintenance of such large buildings became difficult. For a long time, dozens of such sites were left unattended. After realizing its value, the concept of Heritage hotels came into existence. Today, although some hotels are owned by the royal family itself, others have been offered to major hotels chains on the lease who have now become the modern-day caretakers.

These Heritage Hotel chains in India retain these Majestic buildings in such a way that their beauty does not seem to be less than what it was during their growing days.
