Globalization is a gala terrain having varied definitions and perspectives from intellects around the globe. It places an invincible limit on state autonomy and national sovereignty, affecting education in diverse ways. Globalization is most commonly distinguished as homogeneity of societies, or hybridization of cultures, to others it is the intensification of worldwide social relations that links outlying localities. Many educators agree that awareness is the beginning of any transformation. Citizens can only participate in local and global issues and challenge any injustice and inequities when they start reflecting on their own and recognize their condition.
Observing this and to bring a definitive change in the mindsets English Language Day at the UN is celebrated on 23rd April, the date is traditionally observed as both the birthday and date of death of divine and great William Shakespeare. The Day is the result of a 2010 initiative by the Department of Global Communications, establishing language days for each of the Organization’s six official languages to celebrate multilingualism and cultural diversity. Even United Nations offers an English Language Programme to promote linguistic balance within the Secretariat by improving the English language skills of its staff and the staff of missions to the United Nations.
It has to be acknowledged here that English has become the unofficial “world language” because of its wide use. Today! It is the main language of business and aviation and the most widely used language at the digital dais and social media. Further, it has been drawn fine that learning English is very important for Indian students. In the present scenario, almost every institute in India has adopted English as a medium of imparting knowledge. To seek admission in foreign universities students must have proficiency in the English language to apply and get selected in the best learning institute. It is de rigueur to mention here as the vocabulary or terminology in any domain like science, economics, technology, medicine, Space, etc. is accessible only in English.
These days, English is noted as a language of opportunities; organizations, generally, look for candidates with exceptional communication skills and good command of the English language. This is because the majority of organizations have an international clientele and would be trite to mention that the English language as a medium of interaction is the only prevalent medium. Apparently, it won’t be wrong to say that aspirants with good command of English have a higher chance of getting hired in a multinational company than those with just technical proficiency.
Geared toward the change from developing to a developed nation, we need to produce more talent within the country who could help us achieve the same. Again, English plays a crucial role here. To keep pace with the developed nations, it is crucial that we do all the scientific and technological research in our nation and it could be achieved through the knowledge of these subjects only. Eventually, to produce a greater number of scientists and technicians, we must teach English to our populace.
A sure-fire! That by learning English one doesn’t need to rely on anybody for seeking any information. By virtue of technological advancements, we are connected globally round the clock. People venture into digital channels for enhancing their networking and build connections at the personal and professional platform. With an increase in social media platforms, people prefer interacting with friends, families, peers and even new people digitally. However, a common language to express, understand and explore different cultures English language skills is imperative. It is a universal language chosen by people of different nationalities as a common means of communication to look for a minuscule article on food blogs to nail down a political argument or sports updates, these days everything is extensively shared in English.
An ironclad fact that remains today is people have realized the importance of the English language in India. By getting more virtuosity over the English language one can grow with the challenging and unpredictable world during the arid times of the pandemic era.
