The theme for World Physiotherapy Day 2020 is ‘Rehabilitation and COVID-19’
“Rehabilitation after severe respiratory illness” and the role that physiotherapy and physical activity can have in helping people through recovery has been main focus during present pandemic.
The world is experiencing an extraordinary, life-altering challenge due to the COVID-19 pandemic
A TALE OF TWO PANDEMICS: COVID-19 vs physical activity and sedentary behavior.
Social isolation adopted worldwide to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has led to a substantial decrease in global physical activity provoking a rapid deterioration of cardiovascular health and general health, more so in people having any respiratory insufficiency or compromise. Clinically relevant intervention to promote health benefits is needed. Also, a perceived change in physical activity or exercise and mental health outcomes in response to COVID-19 is being seen
THE NEW NORMAL
World has become accustomed to a new normal – “social distancing” and “protection” leading to increased risk of social isolation, negative impact on mental health
It is not known what lasting effects the COVID-19 pandemic will have on behavior patterns once life begins to return to normal.
